Turkey recognized the independence of the Republic of Latvia in 1925 and the first Turkish Embassy accredited to all Baltic Statesis opened in 1929.
Turkeydid not recognize the occupation and subsequent annexation ofLatvia by the former USSR. Following the disintegration of the former USSR and declaration of indepence of Latvia, diplomatic relations between Turkey and Latvia have been re-established with a joint declaration in Riga on22 October1991.
The Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Riga first opened on 29 September 2005 at its temporary premises on Blaumana iela, 5a and moved into its current premises in 2008.
